The Difference Between “I Need to Look Good” and “I Want to Feel Good”
Sometimes, you book an appointment because you have somewhere to be. It could be a wedding, a birthday, a meeting, a date, church on Sunday, or that family picture everybody has been talking about. You need your hair done, your nails taken care of, your beard cleaned up, or your skin looking a little less tired. You need to look good, and that's a perfectly good reason.
But sometimes, there's no event. You're just tired.
Maybe you're a mum who has spent the whole week getting everybody else ready, and for once, you want to sit down while someone takes care of your child's hair.
Or you're a dad who has been going from work to school runs and errands and just needs an hour in the barber's chair.
Maybe you're older and you simply enjoy having your hair, nails, or skin taken care of. You've had a stressful week and getting your locs maintained, booking a facial, or getting your nails done is one small thing you can do that is just for you.
That's the part we don't always talk about. Sometimes the appointment isn't really about looking different. It's about not having to do everything yourself for a little while.
You get to sit down while someone else handles the details. You have a conversation, catch your breath, maybe scroll your phone, or do absolutely nothing. And when you leave, your hair might be done, your beard might be shaped, your nails might look good, or your skin might feel better. But the bigger thing is that you gave yourself a moment.
Looking good can be the reason you book. But feeling good is sometimes what you really need.
And honestly, you don't always need a special occasion to take care of yourself. Sometimes being tired is reason enough.
